“Without community, we are lost." - Sandie Diamond, LGSW

Sandie Diamond (aka The Shameless Chef) grew up outside of Los Angeles before coming to DC in 2013 to complete a Masters of Social Work immersion program from the University of Southern California.

In the winter of 2014 she had a routine surgery that took longer than expected to heal. During this time, she pulled out some old family recipes, and for the first time in her life, began to bake. She found it soothing to her recovery - both physically and mentally. Her friends loved her creations and before she knew it, DreamBites were born. The more DreamBites Sandie rolled, the more at peace she found herself. The more at peace she found herself, the more she wanted to share it with the world.

Making sweet "guilty" treats in a health-crazed city would be a challenge. This got her wondering: at what point did we become so shameful about what we eat? And why does it have to be grass fed, organic, free range, hormone-free, all natural, antibiotic free, gluten free, sugar free, low fat, locally made, artisanal and hand-packaged by elves? Are these the requirements for shameless eating? Food has been linked in so many ways to guilt and shame but it doesn't have to be! What if there was a delicious food made with love that can be eaten shamelessly?

That was her moment of truth; she wanted to bake, share, love, build community, and help others treat themselves instead of cheat themselves. And she wanted to do it without reservation, without doubt, without guilt, without fear, and most of all, without shame.

The process of healing is contagious and as Sandie found peace, she wanted to pass this freedom on to others. While much of this is channeled into each individual DreamBite, Sandie also shares this hope by creating jobs for folks in the community who have struggled with self-sufficiency and independence. Sandie is keenly aware that without community we are lost, but without shame, we can thrive!

Through creating DreamBites, Sandie has discovered that success to her comes in the form of: "crushing cakes while building dreams!"
